4 Money-Saving Landscaping Tips

As leaders in the landscaping industry, we have noticed trends and patterns that will lend you helpful, money-saving opportunities. When our customers begin the process of remolding their yard or looking at different avenues to increase the value of their home, they are coming to us with no previous experience. Most of our customers seek out answers and direction from our team of professional landscapers.  We want to make sure we provide you with helpful tips, but also with money-saving ideas. Here are the trends that we've seen to be effective:

Plan before you buy. Taking preemptive measures, by planning ahead, is one of the most common ways our customers get into a bind. Spending time, upfront, helps you decide what design, functionality, and purpose for your landscaping design. Knowing exactly what you need and where you're going to put it helps avoid wasting money. Of course, if you are unsure about the best route to take, we can you our educated advice.

Decide how much design you want. It may seem like it would be less maintenance and less money to remove your grass and install rocks, but it's no bargain if you find the result so unappealing that you don't use it. Allowing us the opportunity to design to create a space that you can utilize will help you feel like your money is well spent.

Don't assume cheaper is always better. It can be very tempting to go with a deal that is cheap and seems to be what you're looking for. We have seen some of our customers purchase items that are marketed to withstand weather and time, but end up falling apart or wearing out quickly. Going with the cheapest deal may cause you to spend more money in the long run. A landscape design, using "cheap" materials, will eventually force you to invest into new and upgraded products.

Talk to a pro. Consult us! We, at Stark Contrast Landscaping, is concerned with your financial state. One of our goals is to make sure we stay within a budget you are comfortable with, while still providing you with a beautiful space in your yard.

Scalping Your Winter Rye

Some people that move to the Valley of the Sun don't believe that lawns actually exist. Let us put your mind at ease, "Yes, even us desert-goers have lawns!" It just takes intentional care and knowledge about how to best manage your winter and summer lawns.

Since winter has came and went, we want to insure you have a good over-seed for the summer.  We will need to eliminate the competition of your winter lawn and reduce the thatch that has accumulated over the winter. We get many questions about the right time to scalp the winter rye in order to get a lush summer lawn. We have an answer! When it consistently his 60% in the evening, we would like to shut off the timer on your water box. We do this in order to dry out your lawn. Once we turn off the water and dry out your lawn, we can continue the preparation for the scalping and over-seeding process. We want the seeds to reach the soil, or all the over-seeding efforts will be ineffective.  That means, you need your lawn specifically cut/scalped in order for the seeds to be put to use. If it is done right, you will have a healthy and rich summer grass!

We, as landscape specialists, know that it is important to not only know how to dry out and cut the winter rye, but to also understand the type of seed we purchase and plant in your yard. We find what works best with the Arizona desert climate. We choose the better quality seed in order to create the most affective summer lawn. Something lush and beautiful, but more importantly, something usable.

Stark Contrast Landscaping can help you grow a lawn that is functional for your family and friends to use. We can cut your winter rye, over-seed and maintain your residential or commercial landscaping. For more information on our affordable pricing, please contact us today.

Seasonal Tree Fertilization

Fertilizing Your Trees | Stark Contrast Landscaping, LLC

The tree fertilizing season is upon us!

We want to keep you informed with seasonal tips on how to keep your yard looking beautiful, while also keeping your plants and trees healthy. Before we, Stark Contrast Landscaping, come out to fertilize your trees, it is important that you remove the preexisting fruit. Any "older" fruit on the tree, that you want to keep, needs to be removed. Once we fertilize the tree, all the nutrients need to go to the new growth/fruit.

Fertilizing season applies to all tree types - Citrus, Elm, Ash and any other trees in your yard. By fertilizing, your trees will look lush year round and, in turn, produce better tasting fruit.
If you have any other questions on how to take care of your trees or if you are looking for us to maintain your residential or commercial property, please contact us: {480} 277-1993

Sprinkler System Design And Irrigation Systems

As we discussed last week, there are several different components that go into making a beautiful landscape design. There is no exception when it comes to the care and upkeep of your yard. One of the "make it or break it" aspects of your yard is your sprinkler system design and your irrigation system. These two maintenance techniques are designed to save you on time, money and on manual labor.

Our main concern with installing a sprinkler and irrigation system, is creating a design that will cut water costs and reduce the amount of required maintenance efforts. It is no secret that adequetly watering your plants, grass and garden will keep your yard looking vibrant and healthy. Just because your yard may need water, doesn't mean you have to compromise on efficiency. We are aware that there are several DIY drip kits that are sold at most home improvement stores. They come in different sizes - small enough to install in a planter and large enough to cover the span of your garden. While this may seem like an easy and cheaper route to take - you may be missing out on the  benefits that come with having a trained professional install your irrigation and sprinkler system.

At Stark Contrast Landscaping, we have a team of educated professionals who understand how to properly install irrigation and sprinklers. We set timers for the optimal use of your water system. We take into consideration the plants and grass we are taking care of as well as the season and weather climate. Trust an authority figure in the landscaping business - don't waste your time or your money.
