Spring Planting | Phoenix Landscaping

Planting Arizona Spring Flowers & Plants

Spring is the time of year when the sun is warm, the breeze is cool, and the steady hum of lawnmowers once again fills the air. Spring is upon us and it is a great time to plant! Look at your landscape and see if it can use a pop of color to brighten up your yard. It may be time to add a few new "faces" to your yard. Our landscaping specialists can determine the amount and type of plants that should be planted based on the amount of sunlight it receives. We know how to select the best Arizona plants and flowers to bring your home beauty and practicality.

Taking all the small details into consideration (ex. Sunlight, water, and seasons) will help your plants last longer, allowing you to get the most "bang for your buck!" Flowers can be a great addition for the short term but by selecting specimens that have interesting color or texture in their foliage also you will have a more lasting visual effect in your landscaping.  Stark Contrast Landscaping would love the opportunity to look at your yard and give you a quote.  Once we discuss exactly what you envision for your landscaping, we can give you our professional opinion on what will work best for your home and family.

Scalping Your Winter Rye

Some people that move to the Valley of the Sun don't believe that lawns actually exist. Let us put your mind at ease, "Yes, even us desert-goers have lawns!" It just takes intentional care and knowledge about how to best manage your winter and summer lawns.

Since winter has came and went, we want to insure you have a good over-seed for the summer.  We will need to eliminate the competition of your winter lawn and reduce the thatch that has accumulated over the winter. We get many questions about the right time to scalp the winter rye in order to get a lush summer lawn. We have an answer! When it consistently his 60% in the evening, we would like to shut off the timer on your water box. We do this in order to dry out your lawn. Once we turn off the water and dry out your lawn, we can continue the preparation for the scalping and over-seeding process. We want the seeds to reach the soil, or all the over-seeding efforts will be ineffective.  That means, you need your lawn specifically cut/scalped in order for the seeds to be put to use. If it is done right, you will have a healthy and rich summer grass!

We, as landscape specialists, know that it is important to not only know how to dry out and cut the winter rye, but to also understand the type of seed we purchase and plant in your yard. We find what works best with the Arizona desert climate. We choose the better quality seed in order to create the most affective summer lawn. Something lush and beautiful, but more importantly, something usable.

Stark Contrast Landscaping can help you grow a lawn that is functional for your family and friends to use. We can cut your winter rye, over-seed and maintain your residential or commercial landscaping. For more information on our affordable pricing, please contact us today.

Seasonal Tree Fertilization

Fertilizing Your Trees | Stark Contrast Landscaping, LLC

The tree fertilizing season is upon us!

We want to keep you informed with seasonal tips on how to keep your yard looking beautiful, while also keeping your plants and trees healthy. Before we, Stark Contrast Landscaping, come out to fertilize your trees, it is important that you remove the preexisting fruit. Any "older" fruit on the tree, that you want to keep, needs to be removed. Once we fertilize the tree, all the nutrients need to go to the new growth/fruit.

Fertilizing season applies to all tree types - Citrus, Elm, Ash and any other trees in your yard. By fertilizing, your trees will look lush year round and, in turn, produce better tasting fruit.
If you have any other questions on how to take care of your trees or if you are looking for us to maintain your residential or commercial property, please contact us: {480} 277-1993
